Why these markets?

We used the latest published Census County Business Patterns release available when checked on September 6, 2026: the 2023 reference year. Our guides cover all 50 states, with the District of Columbia listed separately. City guides add research into the specific utilities, access and property questions that a statewide overview cannot resolve.

These figures measure business concentration, not vehicles washed. NAICS 811192 includes different washing and detailing models, excludes businesses without paid employees and is not a complete count of every wash bay or tunnel. Counts do not establish current buyer demand, a valuation multiple or search volume.

The Census methodology page currently says its information is no longer current while confidentiality methods are reconsidered. These are historical 2023 counts from the linked data file; that notice is not evidence of a newer release or a change to an individual count.
